A 12-step skincare sounds absolutely insane!! Especially for someone who just started out with just a cleanser..That used to be me... But with this 3-steps, it helped me get into the habit!
1. Start with what you can and start with the basics
I would advice to start with the basic 4 which is cleanser, toner, moisturizer and scrub. If that's already too much for you, then start with what you can. No harm in that. Maybe just cleansing and moisturizing. Once it becomes a habit whereby you start to unconsciously reach for your products, start adding more one by one. Soon even a 8-step skincare is a piece of cake!
2. Set a day and time
If morning is such a hassle, set your skincare during the night. Set a time when you will remember to do it. For example, maybe before you sleep, you'll do your routine. Or like for me, I would do it right after I shower. I usually put them where I can see them so it'll instantly remind me every time I'm in the toilet. Get into that habit first, then seep it in your morning routine.
Since some skincare are recommended to be used twice a week like scrubs. Set a certain day of the week like you'll do your scrub like every Tuesdays and Thursdays. So if by chance you forget when was the last time you scrub, you'll remember when's the next time you need to. Remember don't beat yourself up if you missed a day. I missed loads of days back then and sometimes even missed them now.
3. Line up your products
Even though you memorized the arrangement, there'll definitely be times where your mind spaces out and you'll be like shit... I forgot to put on my toner.. I realized that line up my products beforehand makes it easier for me to keep track of what and when I should be using it.
Good luck! Keep it up and don't give up!!
