Short summary on the book

This book delves on before as a small time software company into animation powerhouse that Pixar came to be. Its starts off with the life of Ed Catmull and his passion to create the first 3D animated film. Soon, he'll explore how circumstances led to the meeting with his colleague, John Lesseter and the late Steve Jobs.

From there, we see how they built up the Pixar culture and slowly intertwine itself with Disney Animation Studio. It gives an inside look of the start of Pixar's success with its revolutionary Toy story and the many mistakes and lessons along the way.

My Review
I've always been a fan of Disney and Pixar as well as a huge animation fan. So, it doesn't come to a surprise for me to enjoy this. The book is easy to follow and really give a microscope on how Pixar came to be. And I also got to see the inside evolution of the current box office success of Disney Animation Studio. If you're a fan like me, its a great read! You'll understand the evolution of your favourite movies and what makes an animation/story able touch so many hearts.

Even if you're not a fan, it's still a great read! Ed Catmull outlines the lessons he learned and how he led his team. His experience are definitely a great lesson on how to lead an organization and establishing a good company culture. He really breaks it down for you.

I love how he constantly reminds how mistakes are not something horrible but just a way of life and how we learn to be better.

He pulls in real life examples like how he describes the chaos and problems every Pixar movie brought as well as how they tackled to solve them. He tells readers how change is important and not to be feared. Instead when there's no problems, that's something to worry about.

This book gives a really depth look in a great example of a company's way of thinking that promotes success. I would truly recommend it! I loved learning Ed's humility and his strive to create a culture that promotes creativity, love for their job and respect for one another.

This book is definitely one that I would read over and over again.
