Minimalism: How to minimize your shoe collection?

Here are my steps

First, Take out all your shoes and put them into one pile.

And then, divide them into what you use every day and what you rarely reach for. For your everyday shoes, it must be shoes that you wear on a daily basis and put them into a keep pile.

So now you have a pile of shoes and it may feel very overwhelming. So instead of picking out what you wanna keep, it's time to figure out what you should get rid off. We'll start with the simple ones first.

For starters, try on all your shoes and get rid of the ones that are falling apart, worn down (like the leather is chipping off) and doesn't fit you anymore (for these ones, you can put in the donate pile).

So now, I bet you're thinking "I still have a lot more but I can't get rid of the rest! They're still in good condition and I spend a lot on them!"

Well, I want you to look at the pile of shoes that you cull out earlier and ask yourself if you want the rest of your shoes to end up like that. Unused, falling apart and in the dust bin.

Then, separate your shoes into categories of what you use them for such as gym shoes, formal events heels, casual shoes, winter boots, etc.

Once you've divided them into different piles, it's easier to see how much shoes you have for certain things and how you might have gone overboard with them. From here, look at your shoes and ask yourself whether you really need that many shoes for that use? For example, do you really need 4 sport shoes when you barely go to the gym? Or do you really need 6 black heels? Or that many shoes with the same colour or design?

Try to keep it to a max of 2/3 per categories!

It helps to wear those shoes again and see if it fits your current wardrobe.

If it doesn't match any clothes you have or you have doubts on whether you like it or not (and you haven't worn it for months!!), it most probably deserves to go to the donate/sell pile.

By this time, 50% of your shoes are left but before you keep all those shoes back to your shoe rack, ask yourself again, do you really need that many shoes?
