Tips when travelling to Bangkok

A few tips I learned on my trip to Bangkok..

1. Haggling with taxi drivers

I find Thai locals are really nice people. During our trip, we met a lot of people who were willing to help us without us even asking. But man...Taxi drivers are notorious in taking opportunity of the situation! So it's raining or it's late at night at the club and you just wanna go back to your warm hotel. And when you finally grab a taxi, they demanded for 250 bath when you got there for 70 baht! That's 3 times the original price! Yes. It's that crazy!!!!

My tip :
If you have Internet, use uber.
If you don't, haggle the best you can (though high chance you'll still be paying extra but 120 baht is better than 250 baht hike) or try your luck with the next taxi or just use the train.

2. Jams in Bangkok is FUCKING CRAZY

So if you have a flight at 8.30pm on a weekday and your hotel isn't near the airport, be prepared to leave your hotel at 2.30/3.00pm. I am not kidding.
My sister and I left at around 4.30pm and we almost missed our 8.20pm flight. We literally took a cab which ditched us at the BTS (the train station), then went to the nearest station at Mo Chit, then bribed the next cab 400 baht to get us to the airport by 7.30pm.

My tip:
Yeah. So choose your flight wisely. The cab driver advised us that weekends aren't so bad. Make sure you allow more time for you to get there research about the jam. Assume the worst! If you still end up in the jam, don't waste time in the cab!! Use the train first to Mo Chit station then a taxi to Don Muang Airport.

3. SHIT! Out of money!

So, when you're outta money... and there's so many cheap beautiful shit you wanna buy but can't... what to do..?
Taking money from credit cards was a total NO-NO for me since high interest can defeat the purpose of buying cheap stuff. Instead, you can activate your debit card for overseas spending *thumbs up!*

But what if you're already overseas... with no(t much) money? How are you gonna activate your card? Dum dum DUMMM!!!
Luckily, cards like CIMB offers activation online!(check out here: https://www.cimbclicks.com.my/clicksdemo/tacsms/atmservices-overseasusgae.htm) It was god sent when I found out about this. Best yet! CIMB has branches in Thailand and the rates were pretty good. If I'm not mistaken, for 8000 Baht, we paid a total of RM844.

My tip:
If you don't want to bring too much money, activate your debit card beforehand or find out more about your bank's activation options.
